Kyiv is a huge city of approximately 5 million people at the present time. But many people, (at least in the USA) are not familiar with many of the things available here. Do you know that people from around the world travel to Kyiv for their dental treatment? I have heard of people flying all the way from New Zealand, spending one week here for dental treatment and then flying back! Less expensive to do that then in their home country! I will need dental implants in the future and for the cost of one tooth back in the US I can get 4 or 5 done here. The cost will depend on which implant is the best for me. There are options to get implants that are made in different countries just depending on what is needed.
There is also the options for medical facilities. What the typical Ukrainian citizen uses is not something most of us would care for. You buy and bring your own medical supplies. Hygiene can be lacking but the cost is cheap. Then there are the private clinics with the most modern medical diagnostic machines and western quality hygiene. These are the clinics that wealthier Ukrainians and expats use.
Yesterday three of us went to get health physicals at one of these private clinics. Since we are all older, er I mean more mature we opted for the full physical. To say that it was an impressive facility would be an understatement. We were poked, prodded and relived of some bodily fluids for a full 5 hours!! We had tests done that I never knew existed. Our doctors were specialists and most knew English. We did however have a friend who is an interpreter along to help out when needed. We all met individually with the head doctor to get a review of what condition we were in and will return in a few days after the lab results come back to get our final reviews, changes or additions to prescriptions and anything else that may be needed.
Needless to say I did NOT take any photos but I did want to mention that you should not be afraid to become and expat anywhere. It's a great experience.
